Rockefeller Center and Top of the Rock

Sayōnara Party

November 16, 2010 — The sayōnara party or farewell party took place at the Lobby Lounge of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.  We enjoyed some expensive cocktails and the spectacular view of Central Park, Columbus Circle and the New York City skyline.  The party continued at my home as we helped our guests pack for their upcoming trip.

November 17 to 21 — The next stop of the tour was in Dry Ridge, Kentucky, where Onaga Kaichō and Arakaki Sensei taught at a Gasshuku hosted by Devorah Yoshiko Dometrich Sensei.  After the Kentucky Gasshuku Onaga Kaichō continued on his own to Plantation, Florida, and to South America (Peru and Argentina).  At the same time, Arakaki Sensei returned to New York and then to Okinawa.

Visit to the American Museum of Natural History

November 22 — During the morning we invited Arakaki Sensei to the American Museum of Natural History located in Central Park West at 79th Street.  Later that evening we had another training session.

The next stop on our tour with Arakaki Sensei was Rockefeller Center and the Top of the Rock Observation Deck with its fantastic view of the city.

Despite the haze, it was a breathtaking experience.

Metropolitan Museum of Art

A stroll along the eastern edge of Central Park took us to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  What would a trip to New York be without a visit to this incomparable museum.

Arakaki Sensei explicitly wished to see the Egyptian section.

Back to Okinawa

Having spent many long hours training and learning, but also socializing and touring, it was now time to bid farewell to our visitor.  This photo was taken the night before Arakaki Sensei's flight back to Okinawa.
