The following activities took place between October and December 2011.

Dōjō Building

Cultural Event — Okinawan Cuisine at Manyo

Dōjō Building

The Shinjinbukan Augsburg Dōjō had just moved in with the Budō Shuren Dōjō, which is a Budōkan or Martial Arts Center.  This location includes our own Dōjō.  The renovation of this space was completed in several phases.  For more information about our Dōjō, visit shinjinbukan.de

October, 2011: We started the renovation by leveling out and painting the walls.

December, 2011: We had a set of mirrors installed and laid a temporary floor with tatami mats.  This allowed for some good training to start with. See our mobile Tachi Machiwara in the foreground.

Cultural Event — Okinawan Cuisine at Manyo

At the same time, we had a chance to attend a cultural event of Ryūkyū cuisine or Okinawan cuisine.  A celebrity chef, Ms. Ayaka Yamamoto, and a whole team of assistants came all the way from Okinawa for this occasion.  Augsburg was one of three cities where they would carry out this event on their tour of Europe.

This event was sponsored by the Deutsch-Japanische Gesellschaft in Augsburg und Schwaben and the Japanese General Consulate in Munich and hosted by Mr. Saji at Manyo Restaurant.  The event also included an introduction to the Ryūkyū islands' geography and culture.  The exhibits shown included bingata kimonos (see photo below).
