Walter Palomeque − Biographical Note

Written by Jimmy Mora

Walter Palomeque was born in Chivilcoy, Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. On November 9, 1981, he started studying karate the in Chivilcoy with Rubén Lisanti Sensei.

In 1987, Walter and his teacher met Pedro Fattore Sensei, director of Shōrin Ryū Kyūdōkan in Argentina, and they established a good friendship with him and subsequently joined Pedro Fattore Sensei’s organization. In January of 1994, Walter Palomeque makes his first trip to Okinawa, Japan, as part of a delegation of more than 20 students from Fattore Sensei’s School with members from all over Argentina. At that time, Walter had already a rank of San Dan (3rd Dan).

During this trip, Walter had the good fortune of meeting Onaga Yoshimitsu Sensei thanks to Lisanti Sensei, who heard about “Onaga's Ti” in Argentina and was able to establish a direct contact. After 20 days, the delegation returned to Argentina, but Walter decided to stay and train at the Shinjinbukan Honbu Dōjō learning directly from Onaga Sensei for another three months until the end of April. It was at this time, when Onaga Sensei accepted Walter Palomeque as his Uchi Deshi.

In 1996 and 1999, Onaga Yoshimitsu Sensei made a special trip to Chivilcoy, Argentina to teach his deshi, Walter Palomeque.

In 2000, Walter traveled to the United States to attend the Gasshuku (training camp) in Dry Ridge, Kentucky. This event was the first time that all the direct deshi of Onaga Sensei living outside of Okinawa gathered to train together under one roof to learn directly from their teacher.

In 2004, Walter Palomeque received a promotion to Yon Dan (4th Dan) awarded by Onaga Yoshimitsu, Shinjinbukan Kaichō.

In 2010, during Onaga Kaichō’s International Tour of United States, Peru and Argentina, Walter Palomeque hosted Gasshuku for Onaga Kaichō in Chivilcoy, Argentina.

In 2014, during the European Gasshuku Tour, Walter met Onaga Sensei at the Gasshuku hosted at the Shinjinbukan Madrid-Parla Dōjō in Spain.

In May of 2015, Walter Palomeque made his second trip to Okinawa and trained for 30 days under Onaga Yoshimitsu Kaichō at the Shinjinbukan Honbu Dōjō. During this visit, Onaga Kaichō tested Walter and awarded him with a promotion to Go Dan (5th Dan) and the Renshi certificate, which is a high-level teaching license or Diplôme.

Until late 2015, the Renshi certificate has been the highest teaching standard awarded by the Shinjinbukan School and by Onaga Yoshimitsu Kaichō, as it has only been awarded to four of his direct deshi (disciples). Two of these certificates were awarded to Go Dan (5th Dan) instructors and two were awarded to Roku Dan Go Dan (6th Dan) instructors.

Thus, Walter Palomeque Sensei became the second Shinjinbukan teacher to ever receive a Go Dan / Renshi and the first one in Latin America to have such distinction. For reference, see Credentials (Certificates)
